All,
A GREAT weekend in Savannah with the "Racing into the Millennium" event
put on by Vintage Drivers Club of America (VDCA). For what they lacked in
numbers, they more than made up for with camaraderie and enthusiasm. Not one
incident (except for a black Spitfire and a white Ford sedan that spun
repeatedly...) Scott Ebert's Bugatti, David Whiteside's Mark VI Lotus and
myself in Jimmy Dobbs' Fiat Abarth Berlina Corsa had a ding-dong battle,
Alex Q, III, brother Scott and Jim Netterstrom were unbelievable going back
and forth and the Allcomers Handicap went great with two Devin bodied cars
(Porsche and Alfa powered Ermini) coming in first and second. The small
displacement Prod cars were the biggest supporters and it made for a
reasonable sized group. From the French Champagne "toast" Friday evening to
the Pick picking and oyster roast on Saturday, no one went away hungry (or
without a headache if they weren't careful). The purpose built sports racing
cars were out and the weather couldn't have been better for all three days
with highs in the seventies and lots of sun. A schedule has been announced
for next year and, according to the organizers, the web site will be up
soon. Happy holidays!
