 I have a 92 1500 suburban 116,000 miles 350 motor. The motor is starting
to show some low oil pressures afer a long tow. So I plan on building a
purpose built motor for towing. I need some input if any one out there
has built any special motors. I was thinking maybe a 383 stroker. I want
to retain good gas mileage ( thats a relative term)

Craig,

Check with your local engine rebuilder/automotive machine shop. There is a
very cool 383 stroker kit for the 350 chevy. You can have it with steel
crank or cast and with forged pistons or cast. The price for the kit with
steel crank and forged pistons (your choice of compression) with rings is
about $1500 which is a bargan. You can then go for aluminum heads or stock
and with a good RV cam (consider a roller - lifetime lifters and no breakin)
you could have (depending on the heads, exhaust and induction) about 400 hp
for about the same price as a crate motor. I think I would also consider
converting to splayed four bolt main caps for the extra strength. See Summit
Racing Catalog.

Cheers,

Rod
