With most transaxles, it's possible to flip the differential over and
re-shim the ring gear backlash so the car goes the right direction. 
That's how all the Formula Vees work. Hewland, OTOH, flipped the whole
unit over. It's upside down and backwards, so the ring gear is on the
same side VW put it.
