While Joe's car has a smaller frontal area, in my unscientific experience,
top down TR's are LESS aerodynamic than your car with the hardtop. This
observation has been made over many years and many road trips in my street
car TR6. Top down on the highway, the car gets around 23-24 mpg on a road
trip. Top up (heaven forbid), the mpg is in the 27-28 range. What else
could it be than aerodynamics?
