the rule of thumb I have used is that the tread width should not exceed the
rim width, the logic being the tread will not lay flat  across the pavement.
All tires have their section width (tire at its widest part) and tread width
in the  dealer catalogs, since you have the rims with tires on them it should
be easy to check for clearances for a wider size.....chuck
