I just encountered a restoration guy, specializing in MGs, who is using a
satin black John Deere paint and found it to be quite durable.
He paints the frames in this black, which IS a high quality paint...and then
uses the aerosol matching color for miscellaneous parts and bolts.
I plan to do this shortly, but also have powder coating facilities available
which I will use for selected parts.

Why are you using primer on suspension pieces? Paint does not really stick
all that well to primer. Do you think the MG factory primed suspension
pieces
before top coating - I think not. Primer is for bodywork where surface
imperfections are filled and leveled with the primer built-up and sanded
between coats.
I think that Krylon rattle-can paints are a good product: quick drying, run
free, wide choice of colors, and a durable finish etc.
