I've been referred to this List from the Healey List. I have a
carmine red 1954 Austin-Healey 100 that was heavily raced in the Chicago
area from 1954 until 1962. I have photos of many of the trophies won in
track racing, hill climbs and car shows. The owner/driver, now
deceased, was Dick Crombie who later moved to outside Phoenix, where I
acquired the car in 1978. A SCCA member, he ran at Road America many
times. I am awaiting a reply from their resident historian as to
whether any records still exist for that period. He was also a member
of the O.D.H.D.C. "Outer Drive Hero Drivers Club. (This is for real and
I have the badge to prove it.) Other sponsors of events I know he
attended include: Blackhawk Car Club Hill Climb; Midwest Timing Assoc.,
Ignitors Auto Club, Village Sports Car Club and Meadowdale Concours and
races by Checkmates Ltd. Sports Car Club.
He bought the Healey after crashing his MGTD in a race. I'm hoping
there might be some real old-timers from the Midwest out there who
remember him or the car at events. Or, does anybody know of archives
with race/show results for that period and area that I could contact?
Thanks to the List for your time and helping me build on my Healey's
rich history.
