OK, my turn. Personally, I judge my ability, or rather progress in ability by
comparing best lap times from track to track. I always race against myself in
an effort to do better at a particular track than the last trip. Mechanical
improvements, within prescribed limits, are part of the fun. It's frequently
sobering to see how little,if any, seconds I gain from an overpriced
mechanical do-hickey.
Thats not to say I'm an auto-crosser at heart. It's a bonus to run nose to
nose with a good friend, but at the end of the weekend its my best lap time
that concerns me.
Having said all that, I vote for a spec tire. Maybe its not feasible, but it
would seem easy to declare that all small bore production cars must run
(insert favorite brand).
Well, back to the garage. See you all on the track next year.
