Virginia International Raceway - what happened?

Hi folks,

Since I live in the North Carolina area, local tracks and their 
histories intrigue me.  Now that the 'Rock is no longer available 
to us roadracers, it occurred to me that it is not alone.

Whatever happened to the Virginia International Raceway, near 
Danville VA?  I've heard that the track is still there, in the middle 
of rolling southern Virginia farmland.
