<<Spec Fords are pre 1982 FFs, Club Fords are pre 1978. Both run
on spec McCreary tires which are not as sticky as the Goodyears
the Swift FFs run but last 2-3 weekends instead of just one.
In the SF Region we race at Laguna Seca, Sears Point, and our
new track, Thunderhill.>>

We only have current cars and historic (vintage) in Australia. The rules=

are pretty much the same for both with minor variations but the moderns r=
un
Avon ACB10s while the vintage run Dunlop CR82. The Avons run about 1 sec=

quicker on most circuits. Our vintage cutoff is currently the end of 197=
7
but this will - hopefully - extend from next year to pre-84 cars. =

<<Crossles are the car of choice, Lolas a close second, but I,
being a nonconformist and romantic, run a '78 Gurney Eagle,
no. 5 of 11. It's fast, forgiving, and a sweetheart to drive.
I'm getting more and more competitive in it; this season I
ran a pretty consistent 3rd/4th in class, 6th/8th overall.
Despite its rarity and pedigree I don't think the Eagle will
ever be accepted for vintage because it would presumably
require opening the floodgates to the hundreds of other FFs
that age. I don't really mind, I'm having too much fun in
SCCA.>>

FF in Australia started with a requirement to run a locally built chassis=
=2E =

The main ones were initially Bowin - made in Sydney and very advanced wit=
h
rising rate suspension on the P6 - and Elfin's made in Adelaide. There
were a few one-offs and the first imported chassis was the Lola T440 whic=
h
we imported for a friend in late 1976. >>

<<When I can afford it I would love to vintage race an FB
Brabham or Chevron (or a BEAUTIFUL F2 Lotus I saw at the
Monterey Historics).

Maybe see you at a race up here one day...>>

We brought our Lotus 61MX over for Monterey in 1995 and had a ball. =

Suspect it will be a few years before we can convince Steven Earle to put=

FF back on the program and we come back again.
