I have one of the $100 (cdn) specials. While it's better that the small
jacks, the release mechanism jams, the wheels don't roll well and it
generally frustrates me from time to time. I've recently been using a real
floor jack, left in my shop by a friend for safe keeping, and the difference
is tremendous!

Example one: Moving cars around by jacking up one end and easily rolling
the car on the jack wheels.

Example two: Using the jack to raise and lower the transmission when lining
up an engine install (you have to be able to work the release reliably to do
that).

I guess I could engineer a solution to the cheap jacks troubles, but I keep
working on the race car instead! As an aside, last week when I was supposed
to be getting the Midget ready for Mosport, I always found myself doing some
small job on the Merlyn, which won't race till next year! I guess we all
seem to do the fun things first, rather than the things that need to get done.
