The irony is painful - I recently lost the argument to get my local club
(VARAC) to let me run a 1275cc engine in my 1961 Midget, which came with a
948CC engine...C'est la vie;)

Almost every club will let you use normal overbore sizes. VARAC lets us go
to .065" overbore, so that 948cc A-series can use readily available 998cc
std. bore race pistons. What gets people talking is: a) when you put an
different size engine from a later model of the car into an early model
(like my efforts to use a 1275 in a 948 car). Lots o' clubs don't allow
this, but some (like HSR) just put you in the appropriate class based on the
type of car and the engine you show up with. The second thing that gets
people going is when you take an engine and stroke and bore it to a greatly
increased size. Going with A-series again, you can take a 1275cc engine out
to about 1,430 cc with ease, and gain a very useful power and torque
increase. Most of the really fast small-bore cars in HSR do this, and many
vintage racers and clubs consider this cheating. HSR now has an informal
sub-class of guys that do this (Tom Colby, Jahamiac, et al) and I say that
as long as they're honest about it, and don't claim to have a small engine
in the car, more power (pun intended) to them. Lot's of HSR guys also run
Dog gears, and move the suspension pickups around to improve the geometry,
and run near-as-shit slicks as well, which even I start to think of as cheating!

Details please! I missed the news release.

Again, details. I probably know the car, as I've been a VARAC scrutineer,
on and off, for years.
