OK, we've talked about Beetles. What about the *Common Gear*? It looks to
have a lower CG and less frontal area. It has front disc brakes, at least
in the later model. Did anyone race them in the *old days*?
Why couldn't it be as fast as a Porsche 356 with much cheaper and more
easily available engine components? The VW magazines advertise
counterbalanced/full-circle crankshafts for $300/450. The stock
non-full-circle Porsche 912/356 crankshafts sold for $900/1200 a few years
ago. Similar cost spread for other parts.
Any comments?
