A Brent Kiser wrote a VTR article in the early 2000s, primarily on the
Laycock pressure plate as originally found on TR6 with a side discussion of
the Borg & Beck PP as originally fitted to some TR6 (also GT6).
Is he still part of the Triumph community? If so, does anyone have his
contact info? The yahoo e-mail address in the article is no longer

I have some questions for him *or anyone else* that has some knowledge of
the original PP fitted to the TR6 & GT6.
My message to him: *I've read your VTR article on the Laycock pressure
plate (several times). I realize your article is going on about 20 yrs
now. Hopefully you still monitor this email address.*
*I acquired an original Borg & Beck pressure plate that I removed from a
'67 GT6. The B&B pressure plate was a bit rusty (I was unable to
separate the trans from the engine because the clutch disc was lightly
rusted on the trans splines and rusted to the PP so I had to destroy the
bellhousing to gain access to the pressure plate). I sent this rusty PP
off to Fort Wayne Clutch for rebuilding) essentially to reface the clutch
contact surface. *
*Fort Wayne Clutch got back to me that they had concerns about the clamp
force being low. They have a machine that measures two points of pressure
plate displacement force. The low force was about 180 lbf and the high was
about 275 lbf. Do you have any idea as to what the clamp forces on either
an original Borg & Beck or on a Laycock PP intended for a TR6/GT6 might
be? *
*I have a Spit bodied GT6 with a TR6 engine. I have been using a Borg &
Beck PP intended for a Volvo 240. I had an '83 Volvo 240 wagon in the
later '90s and bought a replacement PP. In the PP box there was a note
that said for Triumph applications one needed to open up the 3 pilot holes
from 6mm to 0.250 inch. I needed to remove the Triumph transmission long
before I needed to replace the Volvo clutch so I used the Volvo intended PP
in my Triumph. The pedal force to actuate the clutch on my car is 30 lbf.*
