 It's all in the head.  The combustion chambers in the later head are large=
r.  Since compression ratio is (Displacement + Combustion Chamber Volume)/C=
ombustion Chamber Volume a larger Combustion Chamber Volume will give you a=
 smaller number.


You can take a later model head and shave it down reducing the Combustion C=
hamber Volume and increase the CR.  It is a fairly common practice among fo=
lks who modify their cars for performance.
