Carl, I just drove into the garage and got your email.  On both my 3's the
distance from the top of the steering wheel to the windshield is 3
horizontal inches.
Then it's roughly 7.5 to 8 inches from that point to the top edge of the
glass ( a little hard to see and I wanted a beer) Hope this helps.

Could someone please measure the distance from the top of the steering wheel
to the windshield (measuring at vertical - not the slant of the wheel).   It
seems to be much closer than I remember.  Also, a second measurement from
where that point is on the windshield to the frame (glass distance only).

The mounting holes are what they are but I wonder if the stanchions are not
true.
