Just disconnect the wires and use an ohmmeter or test light to test between
the hot wires and ground.  There should be no continuity with the brake not
engaged.

You are fortunate that there are only two light fixtures and a switch to
consider.

As usual ye guys hit the nail, quick trip to the garage, ignition on, push
brake pedal, pop goes the fuse. I had a quick look at the connections, look
OK, how do I trace this?
