I agree entirely (except you only have to push the accelerator a little way, 
not to the floor).

However yesterday, while I was working on the OD, I reached into the car, 
pulled the choke out and started the engine, all with my left hand.  It just 
shouldn't be that stiff, IMO.  

Old cables do sometimes develop a lot of friction that only shows up when they 
are under tension.  Mine was totally unusable when I bought the car; in fact I 
got it at a discount because the seller could not get it started.  Not knowing 
any better, he was only pulling the knob out enough to set the fast idle (which 
is where it started to bind).  I just turned the key, walked around and 
squeezed the choke levers on the front carb and pushed the button on the 
solenoid ... should've seen his face when it started right up!

But a new aftermarket cable from Moss solved the problem.  That was around 
1984, and I'm still using that same cable ... money well spent <G>
