Look up a sending unit for an electronic speedo.  I was researching  using an 
electronic speedo in my TR and I am almost sure that Summit has a  sensor 
that does not use a magnet.  You point it at the bolts on your prop  shaft 
output 
at the rear of the tranny.  Pretty sure but its been a  while.
