Mike,
I used that exact tool to remove both upper ball joints and the tie rod ends
on the TR4 project.
For me it just worked as would be expected.
I tightened it, let it sit, tightened it etc and over abut 15 minutes the
joint popped.
I believe it is of cast iron construction, so I was carefull not to really use
too much force.
