Nope, they'll hit as well.  The TR4 was wider than the TR3, both outside the
car and between the inner fenders.  The extra width is what allows the
longer intake manifold to fit.

There used to be some ultra-low profile aftermarket air filters available,
but not for many years.  ISTR they were called "Steller and Hellings" or
something like that, and had a washable foam element inside a shaped chrome
housing.  Sexy looking, but unpopular after it was discovered that they
impeded air flow significantly.  You might be able to find a pair on eBay,
though ...

Or, I'd be happy to swap you a normal TR3A intake for your TR4A intake <G>
