  I have a '68 GT6 MK 1 I would like to put overdrive into. I have a
friend with an OD tranny out of a 1980 Spitfire. Is this a direct fit?
If so, what is one of these worth (neither he nor I really have any
idea)?

The good news (so to speak) is that the Spitfire gearbox is NOT a
direct fit to a GT6 motor. Bellhousing is different, input shaft is
different size, etc. Most importantly, though, the gearing of the
Spitfire is for a much less "torquey" motor and not really suitable for
the six. Besides, word's always been that the GT6 box is fragile
enough, so I don't know if even a late Spitfire box would be any better
in that respect.

*Mrs Irrelevant: Oh, is it a jet?
*Man: Well, no ... It's not so much of a jet, it's more your, er,
Triumph Herald engine with wings.
