Hi Folks,
When last I posted on the list, my engine in my 75 TR6 was frozen and in
need of a rebuild. I've since had the motor torn down and found the #3
cylinder rings were corroded to the cylinder wall causing the frozen state. The
block has been honed and fortunately that's all it needed done to it. I'm now
in
need of a set of standard pistons, main & rod bearings, thrust washers, timing
chain and misc other small items to refresh the motor.
My questions are these: Most of the items are listed in Moss' catalog
and seem to be a little cheaper the the Roadster Factory where I have obtained
most of my parts in the past. What have you found the quality to be from Moss
in regards to the parts listed above? It seems the Roadster Factory does not
have standard pistons in stock and the price of $439 for the set from Moss
seems
a bit high. Also, TRF has a timing chain which it states is OE quality for
$59.95 where the Moss catalog lists an aftermarket one for $9.95. Is the
difference worth the price? This is no place to get cheap with replacement
parts but
I don't want to throw away money either.
This also seems like a good time to replace the valve seats with
hardened ones. What exactly needs to be replaced; intake & exhaust or just
exhaust?
manganese bronze guides to?
As always, thanks for the info. I look forward to hearing your opinions.
