Thanks to all for the great information that you've provided. However, if
you haven't guessed by now, one thing leads to another. In my research on
the various temp sending units, I came across several from places like
Summit Racing. This got me wondering what is the optimum range for a stock
to slightly warmed-over TR6 engine?

180 - 195 has been suggested quite often, and is the range specified in
Shane's article. However, looking at the Summit site, I found several
options. The BMW temp sending unit is now not an off the shelf item due to
the vehicle's age. Summit offers several thermostats that come in these
ranges.

1) SUM-890017 - On at 185, off at 170

2) SUM-890018 - On at 200, off at 170

Both of these use a 3/8" thread fitting. What about this vs. the BMW/Napa
part of 180-195?

BTW, the BMW part number in Shane's article is now incorrect. BMW may have
changed their numbering system, but the part number is now:

31-1-384-272-91

Cheers,
