The best solution is to use a stainless steel band clamp. These are a thin sheet of steel that wraps around both pipes then is captured by 2 bolts and a bar. These clamps keep the pipes together and provide a leak proof seal by conforming to the pipes rather than crushing them. The clamp should be 3 to 4" long, the shorter are designed for slotted pipes and won't help your situation. All you would need to do is remove the U bolt clamps and install the band clamps. Harold |
