So where does that leave parts that were found to be defective when they
were new, but never returned to the manufacturer ?

Probably in the same category as the TR2 brake rotors advertised every week
on eBay.  The seller swears they'll fit my stock TR2 ... even after I told
him that TR2s never had disc brakes.
