Not only do I agree with Mr. Eley, but there are additional dangers from the
external oil feed.  TRs have no seals in the intake valve guides, in effect
the design relies on there being relatively little oil in this area to be
sucked past the guide (and in so doing lubricate the guide).  Adding a whole
lot of oil to the rocker cover can result in excessive oil consumption, ugly
(and in California illegal) blue smoke, and potentially even broken pistons
from undetected knock at speed.

As Arne Saknussen said, "I have done this".  The broken piston is still in
my garage as a souvenir and reminder of what can happen when you start
trying to re-engineer an engine.

Adding valve seals can cause problems too, the guides need a certain amount
of lubrication to avoid premature wear, galling and seizure.
