Roger,
I recently purchased an inner and outer cable from Moss because TRF was
out of them. I removed the old one (purchased from TRF some time ago)
which worked perfectly, but one side of the handle broken off so I
decided to replace it. I had the same problem that you experienced, the
inner cable pulled out about 6"-8" before the hood would open. I tried
all kinds of adjustments but I found as you did, the problem was with
the outer cable "bunching up" at the handle end. So I placed the new
inner cable into the old outer cable and it worked just fine. I think
the problem is with the newer supplied outer cables.

Hi Listers,

I have installed a auxiliary bonnet release on my wife's TR250 after a
scary day on our last trip (a week drive up the Mississippi) of not
being able to open the bonnet. Anyway, turns out that we were lucky and

the cable had not broken, but the plastic outer sheath was bunched up at

the handle end and allowing the metal sheath to slide an inch or two, so

that we had to pull a lot further than normal.

Pat purchased a new cable and I installed it as the old one was
installed. The new cable was extremely hard to pull, so I thought the
clamps that hold it to the firewall were to tight. I loosened those and

it made no difference. When I took the cable out of the clamps and let
it arch out over the engine the cable pulled easily. (I lubricated the
latch before I started all this and it moves easily).

When I tried moving the cable back to the firewall ( I looked in a
manual and that seems to be the correct placement for it) it became real

hard to pull again. In fact, the outer plastic sheath had started
giving way again .

I tried to make the bends at both ends as smooth as possible.

So after all that, my question is is there a secret to getting the
bonnet cable installed and working fairly easily?

Thanks,

Roger
