Follow up to "transmission jumped off of the workbench, sucks to be me".
First of all, does any one know the P/N of the 66-70 vintage
transmission case? Someone sent me the P/N for the MK3 (71-73). Would
that person (Scott?) please resend the e-mail. I wiped your e-mail and
another response out while accessing my ISP thru the web at work. I
found out the hard way today that there is no trash bin when deleting
e-mails via on line vs thru my mail client when at home. I was deleting
spam and accidentally grabbed two or three responses to my GT6 trans
posting, at least one of which I had yet to open. I want to confirm
that the trans case is the same for all years of GT6. I have a
potential line on a later trans (assumed to be non OD at the moment) and
worst case I could buy it only for the case and reuse all my internals.
Second, looking in an old Vicky Brit GT6 catalog, there is no OD
mainshaft listed for the GT6. THere is a mainshaft listed for the non
OD. Flipping over to the Spit transmission pages, the non OD mainshaft
for the early 70s Spits is the same as the 71-73 GT6. Also , in the
Spit section there was a listing for the OD mainshaft. I know that all
GT6s and the Spit trans up thru 73 used the same OD, so would it stand
to reason that the Spit mainshaft for OD would fit the GT6? Since TRF
has yet to come out with a GT6 catalog (I remember Charles R. saying he
would have one soon, back in '89) I am stuck in using the Vicky Brit
catalog as my single cross reference source. If the mainshafts are the
same and if Vicky Brit still has one available (my VB catalog is from
2002) I could convert a later non OD trans into an OD configuration. I
-really- want to keep an OD in the car.
About 11 years ago, after I put the current (from a '67 GT6) trans in my
car, I sold off the functional '71 non OD trans out of my car for $15
(just to keep the clutter down in the garage). How I would love to undo
that transaction today.
TIA
