This may have already been answered (I'm on the digest, so I am always
behind!), but I'll toss in my limited knowledge. The mid year C2 Vettes
(1963 - 1967) often came with the optional gold stripe or red stripe tires
(size 775-15 Bias Ply tire, 3/8 inch stripe). They were not Michelin.
Even the 1968 C3 Vette (the next body style) also came with the red stripe
tires as an option (size F70-15 Wide Oval). They were mostly made by
Firestone. The red stripe tires were the more common of the two; the
gold stripe tires are much less common but were optional on some earlier
mid-year Vettes.
In addition to my first passion, which is the TR6, I freely admit that I
am a closet Corvette enthusiast (of the arm chair variety since I don't
own one). I noticed that there is someone on this list from Bowling
Green, Kentucky (a beautiful area). That is the location of the official
Corvette Museum and well worth a visit if you are in the area. If you
were so inclined, you could even order a new Corvette and arrange to pick
it up at the Corvette museum complete with special presentation (the
Corvette factory is across the road).

OK, I was parked at a local car show next to a 65 or so Corvette with red
lines. From the looks of the car I had assumed that they were original.
