The good news is the problem has changed.  This means something you did
made a difference.

If you have a fuel filter that isn't new change it.  The suggestion to
change the wires is an excellent idea.  If those don't work take the
suggestion to revert to points.

If the above doesn't resolve the problem then watch the dist. cap in the
dark while the engine is running.  It could be there is a small fissure
in the cap that conducts spark after the engine gets hot.  

If these don't work try changing out the coil.
