Arnold,
I've had the same issues. The openings are way too big which leaves little
gasket to seal up the manifolds. I end up making my own from stock head
gasket material that you can buy at Napa or other high quality parts store.
I also use lots of copper head gasket adhesive.

You may want to look at the manifolds themselves. The exhaust has a
tendency is get warped or have pits in the mating surfaces.

Let me know if find a source.
John

Hey to all, I am a long digest follower. Long time 1965 TR4A owner. I have
had recurring problems with the manifold gasket. Have looked in the
archives, at various parts venders etc. Does anyone know of a source for a
high quality manifold gasket? Several times in the past 15 years I have
replaced the gasket. Two or three years down the road I will have an idle
poblem. Each time there has been a leak where the gasket is burned,
cracked or blown out. The original had a better life span. Looking for
one that is copper clad or whatever that will prevent this from happening.
I am off list but you can email me
at gilmo004@mc.duke.edu Thanks, Arnold
