Did fluid run out when you removed the switch ?  IMO it's most unlikely it's
blocked, but anything is possible.

Are you stepping on the pedal firmly when you check the lights ?  Unlike
mechanical switches that come on just because the pedal moves, it does take
some pressure to operate the switch.  Before I converted to a mechanical
switch, I found that I could actually stop the car (gradually) without ever
applying enough pressure to activate the switch.
