Yes. This actually happened to some folks in the Twin Cities. It was
written up in the newspaper. They still have the car, nobody ever came to
claim it, but they are out the several thousand dollars they sent to the
"buyer".
When is a cashier check not a cashier check? When it is a fake. And your
bank won't tell you it is a fake until they find out, which is usually about
a week after you have been had.
My co-worker Larry had one of these checks from South Africa for a Caddy. I
told him to check it out. Sure enough, he sat on everything for a week to
let the bank confirm the check was genuine. Sure enough, it was worthless.
Nobody ever came for the car.
Heaven help honest folk in those countries. Nobody in the USA will believe
them.
