An impact wrench works well.  If you don't have an air-powered one, you can
make do by hitting a box end wrench with a BFH.  Before that though, try
just putting the gearbox in 4th and locking the emergency brake, then
turning the bolt with a breaker bar and socket (and cheater bar if needed).
That usually worked for me.

Well, how soon are you willing to plan on doing this again ?  I probably
wouldn't change them on my own car, as long as there were no signs of wear.
To check the chain for wear, hold one end horizontal with the cross pins
vertical, and see how much the other end sags.  Should be almost no sag,
anything over 1/4" or so should be replaced.

Close call, IMO.  I probably would, just because sometimes I can't resist
fixing things that aren't broken ... <g>
