Cosmo,
You can place your sleaved thermostat and a cooking thermometer in a pot of
water on the stove and watch when it starts to open and when it's full open to
determine if you have Winter or Summer thermostat.
Get rid of the mouse nest on top of your heater core to get more air and heat
to the demisters - and/or flush the core.
Put a thermometer in the radiator filler to see what your motor's operating
temp is. Your gauge needle SHOULD be 'straight down' at proper running
temperature of 158F (70C).

   >>Now I couldn't get the windows to defog in the rain. I opened the
heat up, but could barely feel any warmth. I have a sleeved thermostat,
that I believe is 160^ [summer]. The reason I state this is that I did
not find a temp. stamped on it, & the temp. gauge reads pointing
straight down [which is low to me]. I feel the electric sensor is
reading accurately on my TR4/A. I don't know how one would check this
unit.<<
