Just a thought, as squirrels are not one of the problems we have here in
SoCA ... but have you tried putting out a salt lick for the little buggers ?
Animal-grade salt is pretty cheap, probably even rock salt would divert
their attention.
If you're not willing to supply sodium chloride, perhaps sodium cyanide
would do ... <g>
