Scott, I'm not certain from your description, but it certainly could be a
bad ground on the left.  The original TR6 ground path is very poor IMO
(through the metal clip on the bulb holder, and through the screws that hold
the lamp assy to the body); plus it's apparently not uncommon for the ground
to be bad inside the bulb holder.  My Stag (which uses the same bulb holder)
had this problem when I got it, and Nelson Riedel has written an excellent

Note that the replacement holders I got from TRF were incorrect ... they
have a separate ground tab that must be wired to ground.  This is a definite
improvement IMO, but you do have to add the ground wire to make them work
properly.
