Crazy I know!!!!.........but several years ago I was restoring an old solid
brass National cash register with pop-up numbers.........talking to an ole
guy at the company...he must have been 65-70 then (he'd be well over a
hundred now, if extant!).........said he always just used 'spit' on a soft
cotton rag to clean and brighten the numbers (dials)..........maybe just a
bit of acid in our spit, or some digestive enzymes.........I don't know
why.........but it has worked for me! OOOOOH-eeeeee-OOOOOH!.......<g>
