Hmm, Might happen due to the stop/ start of the piston at top dead center and 
BDC. Difficult to know unless the mass of the c clip end was calculated 
against the force needed to compress the c clip.
If popping clips is a problem, Spirolocks should be used.  These are made 
from flat steel and are shaped like a key ring.  Think of a coil spring with 
3 coils that has been flattened.
