The engine will run without causing any damage but: The idle will be very
erratic due to need zero flywheel weight. You will be amazed how quickly the
engine will rev. when you crack the throttle.
The other issue with a 289/302/351W is that the starter bolts to the
bellhousing. Luckily the C4 transmission has a BH that can be removed
without too much problem making for a easy install. You would only need to
install two or three BH bolts but make sure you install two starter bolts.
Fords use a tin/aluminum plate between the BH and the block that centers the
starter nose. For testing purposes this really is not needed.
