Has anyone else tried this beer? What about on the other side of the pond,
what type of reputation does this ale have in England?

Ah, at long last - a thread of true relevance to 'the craft.' As far as Old
Speckled Hen is concerned, the very best way to consume it is straight from
the pump rather than in a can. Savour it cool from a washed-out pewter
spitoon, in a low-beamed room with a log fire smouldering in an ingle-nook,
a few dogs stretched out before it asleep. There will be muted conversation,
occasional titbits of village scandal, the aroma of a much-loved pipe, quiet
laughter - and the barmaid will look as lovely as ever.
'Speckled' will not disappoint. I'm due for my weekly fix on Wednesday at
The Cat and Custard Pot at which time I'll enjoy a plate of bread, pickles
and some Stinking Bishop cheese. Under such congenial conditions and in such
quintessentially British surroundings, one can take a far more objective
view of what oil to put in dashpots and trunnions, or what colour chassis
and headlamp pods were painted. Simply, after a few pints of 'Speckled' -
who the hell cares?
