In the FWIW category: everyone on the list told me the same thing when I
installed everything from scratch after rebuilding my TR3B. But my gauge
read zero. I took everything back apart multiple times and still could get
no oil to flow through the line to the gauge. For lack of anything else to
try, I sort of "pumped" the end with my thumb for a few minutes... and
voila! oil came spurting out onto my nice new carpet and it has worked fine
ever since.

No. Pressure is pressure, and it should read OK even if there is air in the
line.
