I was taught the you don't need any goo with a cylinder head gasket. You
should never use a copper asbestos one twice (unless you are exceptiona;lly
impoverished) and before you re-use a solid copper gasket you must anneal
it. Thus far I've never had a problem with them.
(Oh, except once on a 280 Mercedes twin ohc when SWMBO unfortunately did'nt
notice that funny little light which comes on when the water goes away.)
