If it was me I think I'd soak the seals in a bit of DOT 5 for a few days (if you
have the time) say in a small jar or film container.  Even if the process is 
slow
I would think you would see some black rub off the seal if the DOT 5 was
softening it.

OTOH -- new seals of modern composition would be cheap insurance against a
do-over real soon.
