Is there any technical reason to prefer a stud over a bolt (or vice versa)?
I can see that the stud might offer some assistance in assembly, and that on
a long part (like a head) that a stud means the shaft of the bolt won't be
turning inside, and you don't have to worry so much about bottoming in a
blind hole. But if these are considerations, they don't seem to explain
many choices. In particular, American V8's all seem to use bolts for heads
and studs for bearing caps, but TR engines (at least the 4 cylinder) are
just the opposite.
