Herb,
I have a mail stored that I sent to Ron in Las Vegas some time ago.
It is for the TR8 and its decal set but maybe some of it could be
of use to You also?

Water

Usually not

For the TR8; see below...

... You have better decide to use either a compilation of our two
slightly different sets of measurements, or use just mine straight
as they are since Tim's is missing for the left side fender...
And do take notice that my measurements is NOT a mirror value of
the right side since I used a slightly different method of measure-
ment on that side!
You should first draw it all on a paper so You see what I did, AND
the difference between the sides.

Friends,
I've been comparing the measurements Tim Buja once wrote, and Brian
Thomas so generously picked out of his archived files...

It seems we have one more typically British thing here... The figures
taken off of my car is ROUGHLY the ones Tim once took off of his car,
but usually NOT the same. I can't make any other conclusion than that
the decals was put on by a worker on the assembly line using only the
backing paper, eye measurements and his skill... Not one template any-
where it seems. It would be interesting to hear from others with the
original decals still in place, what their figures are...

I've done a chart that should be viewed in a non proportional font to
make sense:

Tim Buja's car: Odd Hedberg's car:

Front valance TR8 decal -
Top edge of the decal is X below the hood/valance joint:
[The decal is centred horizontally on the valance.]

6" / 152.40mm 5-5/8" / 142,88mm

Boot lid TRIUMPH decal -
lower edge of the decal is X above the bottom edge of the trunk lid:

1-11/16" / 42.86mm 1-11/16" / 42,86mm [Here they match.]

The lower left corner of the horizontal part of the T is X from
the left edge of the trunk lid:

1-3/4" / 44.45mm 1-5/8" / 41,28mm

Boot lid TR8 decal -
lower edge of the decal is X above the bottom edge of the trunk lid:

1-1/8" / 28.58mm 1-5/16" / 33,34mm

The rightmost edge of the upper half of the 8 is X from the edge
of the lid:

2" / 50,80mm 2" / 50,80mm [Here they match.]

_RIGHT_ [or Starboard] fender decals -
Find a point along the swage line to the right of the left (door
hinge side) edge of the fender:

5-7/8" / 149.23mm 6-1/4" / 158,75mm

The lower left corner of the L in the "LITRE" decal is X above
this point on the swage line:

3-5/8" / 92.08mm 2-7/16" / 61,91mm

Since the "3.5" and "LITRE" decals come on the same backing
piece, this puts the left edge of the "3.5" X from the left
edge of the fender:

2-3/4" / 69.85mm 3" / 76,20mm

The bottom edge of "TRIUMPH" in the wreath decal is X above
the top edge of the "LITRE" decal:

2" / 50.80mm 1-3/8" / 34,93mm

the leftmost edge of the wreath decal is X from the left edge
of the fender.

4-3/8" / 111.13mm 4-15/16" / 125,41mm

_LEFT_ [or Port side] fender decals -
Find a point along the swage line to the left of the right (door
hinge side) edge of the fender. [NO DATA from Tim here...]

     --- / --- 6-7/8" / 174,63mm

The lower left corner of the L in the "LITRE" decal is X above
this point.

     --- / --- 2-1/2" / 63,50mm

Since the "3.5" and "LITRE" decals come on the same backing
piece, this puts the left edge of the "3.5" X from the right
edge of the fender:

     --- / --- 9-1/2" / 241,30mm

The bottom edge of "TRIUMPH" in the wreath decal is X above
the top edge of the "LITRE" decal:

     --- / --- 1-3/8" / 34,93mm

the leftmost edge of the wreath decal is X from the right edge
of the fender:

     --- / --- 7-5/8" / 193,68mm

All measurements were made using horizontal and vertical lines from
curved panel edges, so accuracy is a little limited. But not as limi-
ted as the differences of measurements show. PLEASE! Do measure at
least two or three times before applying your decals, and as always,
your exact placements may vary from the ones found on mine and Tim's
cars...
