This sounds like a charging problem.
Being a Sprint a voltmeter is fitted as standard, what readings are you
getting?
Check that you have an output of at least 13.5 volts when engine speed is
above 1500 rpm.
If not an alternator change sounds like a good idea.
If concours is not your thing later Lucas A127 alternators from say Maestros
and Escorts have higher output, better reliability, are plentiful in
breakers and are a direct swop.
