Thanks for the history info.

It's impossible for fuel to flow from the carbs back into the tank,
there is an air gap inside the float bowl.  However, it's extremely
common for the carbs to leak slowly, which has the same effect, the
float bowls go dry as the car sits undriven.  If that is the source of
your hard starting problems, an electric fuel pump will cover it up.

However, the leak will continue to get worse with time, so eventually
you will have to replace the carb seals.  Moss sells an improved jet
seal (syntehtic rubber instead of cork), but my experience has been
that, even with the improved seals, the jet and bowl seals have to be
replaced every few years on the H6 carbs.
