The biggest problem is the length of the input shaft.  You can cut down the 
longer GT6/Vitesse shaft to fit a Spit, but it is a different matter if
you need to lengthen it.  I assume this is a single rail tranny, so you might 
be able to get a TR7 single rail gearbox and adapt the J-Type OD to that
application.  I am not sure how the TR7 input shaft compares with the GT6's but 
I understand that it too is longer than the Spitfire one.
